WOW!!! Book Camp NZ 2020 was a wonderful experience with a fabulous group of campers. If you'd like to read more about it and see some photographs of our work, please visit my blog.

Here's some feedback:

Hi Liz,

I just wanted to write and express my absolute gratitude to you, Jo and Cath for the brilliant creative experience that was book camp.

To have the time to dedicate to one’s passion is priceless and to be among such generous women was an absolute joy.

I felt supported, valued and very much part of a creative community that was there to awhi one another.

Above all I learned that creating is essential to who I am and is something I will no longer put aside for anyone or anything.

Thank you again so much. What a privilege to have been a part of book camp 2020. I am definitely going to be back next year.

Arohanui,

Lesley x

Meanwhile, I've left some information on here for you to read if you're in New Zealand and are really, really keen to know more. Scroll down after the video to have a read.

All you need to know about book camp

Liz Constable - Book Art Studios

Liz is the founder of Book Art Studios and Book Camps here in New Zealand and Australia. An experienced book artist, author and teacher, Liz’s warm and engaging teaching style is popular amongst her students. She’s mastered the art of stepping in when needed and butting out when needed! She’s good with nervous creators and experienced artists allowing everyone to work at their own level, pace and expertise.

Author of One Small Drop, DIY Notebooks Made Easy (also in German).

Cath Polman ‐ Camp Mother

We learnt very quickly at Book Camp, in order to run an efficient event we needed an efficient person on the team. Cath, known fondly as Camp Mother, keeps Book Camp running smoothly. She’s Liz's right‐hand woman who ensures she gets the help and support required. A highly experienced artist, Cath delves in deeply into the projects too and always amazes us all at the stunning creations she goes away with.

Accommodation

Bella Rahka is nestled in forest like settings based in the heart of Oratia, West Auckland. Once you embark on the drive down the long and winding driveway, you find yourself breathing deeply and automatically slowing down.

Each camper enjoys a room to herself so there’s space to go off and have a nap/time out should the need arise.

There are two wings each with a set of shared bathrooms.

There are plenty of places around the property to enjoy, a walk in the extensive gardens, reading quietly in the fully carpeted chapel or sitting outside in nature.

The Classroom

Our classroom is open 24/7. It’s situated in the middle of the two accommodation wings and is a large light filled room that opens out onto an expansive veranda. We bring extra lighting to ensure night owls can work efficiently should they wish. We also create a reading nook/lounge area in the classroom so students can grab a coffee/cup of tea and enjoy some time out as they need it, but still feel part of camp.

We can fit 14 students + Liz easily into the room, and the tables are laid out creating an inclusive community feel. Campers enjoy sharing their ideas/knowledge/skills so it becomes a giant pool of creativity students can dip into and take delight from.

The Food OH the food!

We have our food freshly made each day by two local chefs ‐ the owners of Vevo Foodstore. Victoria and Elliot provide us with the most delicious meals and this is a highlight of camp. Not having to shop, think about what’s for dinner and cook for four days is a treat for most women! We provide two options, vegetarian and meat.

Gluten free and other dietary requirements can be met. Our chefs are incredibly accommodating.

The following meals are provided:

Sunday night dinner

Breakfast, lunch and dinner for Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday

Breakfast and lunch for Thursday (we leave in the afternoon at 4pm).

Materials

All the materials will be provided to enjoy the printmaking experience (there may be an opportunity to buy your own gelli plate to keep so don’t rush off and buy one!).

Liz will provide covers and paper for all the book projects. She’ll have her usual set of travelling supplies. But a full list of what to bring will be sent out to campers once fees have been paid in full.
