Book camps are constantly evolving events which are designed to challenge, extend, delight and certainly invite creatives who are seeking a unique class to be a part of.

We begin each time with a new theme and question how we can deleve even more deeply into our choosen subject.

We came up with an idea for Book Camp Online which will really extend the time we'll share together online. Instead of just having the few intense daily sessions, we're going to include monthly meet-ups so we can enjoy working together to further enhance our projects.

At the end of Book Camp Australia in March this year, I looked around the tables, feasting my eyes on the glorous works of art the campers had produced and said,

"You wouldn't have thought we'd all attended the same class would you?"

Let that sink in......each piece was so utterly unique which is the sign of a great Book Camp. It means the campers have enjoyed exploring their own creative paths and being daring enough to go off piste and bring to life their own wonderful ideas.

The theme for Book Camps this year is: CABINET OF CURIOSISTIES.

What does this mean exactly?

Well, that's up to you.

We meet and discuss what path calls you so you can have support and encouragement to venture down it. I'm with you to act as a guide and the group is there as each others cheer leaders.

We will begin in April and meet each month until August.

Book Camp itself will be held over four days.

DATES: (IN NEW ZEALAND TIMEZONE WE’LL BE ON NZ STANDARD TIME)
Thursday 27th June
Friday 28th June
Saturday 29th June
Sunday 30th June

TIME: NZ TIME
10AM - 11:30 (ish)
NZ WILL BE IN STANDARD TIME

It’s really hard to put a time on the daily sessions. If I feel I’ve come to a natural end and it’s been an hour, I’ll stop. But likewise, if the creativity is flowing I may well go for an hour and a half.

So I suggest you give yourself an hour and a half daily (at least) if you’re intending to join in live.

We’ll be meeting up monthly to prepare for camp and then to enjoy creating our projects together afterwards.

MONTHLY MEET UP DATES
April 28th
May 26th
July 28th
August 25th

TIME: NZ TIME
10AM - 11:30 (ish)

As I begin to explore this theme for myself, I'll post photographs which are more a placeholder than anything. You're invited to go in any direction you choose!

THE THEME

Cabinet of Curiosities

Please note, book camps are known for their experimental aspect. This allows campers to work at their own level and produce work they'd like to create within a theme. Liz's role is to guide, encourage, suggest, support and inspire the group. The idea is that campers leave with a unique piece of work which they can feel proud of!

ABOUT LIZ CONSTABLE:

Liz is the founder of book art studios and book camps here in New Zealand and Australia. An experienced book artist, author and teacher, Liz’s warm and engaging teaching style is popular amongst her students. She’s mastered the art of stepping in when needed and butting out when needed! She’s good with nervous creators and experienced artists allowing everyone to work at their own level, pace and expertise.

Author of One Small Drop, DIY Notebooks Made Easy (also in German) and: RE:CREATE

THE CLASSROOM

Sessions take place in a zoom classroom.

There is also the opportunity to join a private FB group so you can enjoy preparing and meeting other campers in the lead up to book camp, This information is sent out to you when you book and pay.

The sessions will be recorded and made available afterwards to campers. Please do not share the links and passwords with others, this is how I make my living as an artist.

By attending a live session you are agreeing to be recorded. If you're not ok with this, you can have the option to have your video off and communicate via the chat.

As with all my classes and book camps, I set the tone of the sessions by encouraging converstions to take place around creativity. We all know what's going on out there in the world, if you want to talk politics etc there are plenty of other groups you can join if this is what you want.

As a tutor, it's my intention and goal to ensure that students have fun and extend themselves creatively whilst in my classes.
