To kick off Book Camp Online, I invited two extremely talented and experienced artists to join me for a very informal interview. The three of us often meet up online and are never stuck for something to talk about and share.

I met Ailie years ago through a mutal friend and when Ailie pulled out a book to show me, I was sold. She is responsible for setting me off on a most extradordinary bookmaking journey. Ailie was also the person who introduced me to Richard Stine's work via his book, The World of Richard Stine. We coverted our copies and have refrerred to them on many occasions over the years. So imagine our delight when we discovered, Richard lived in Auckland with his lovely wife Margaret!!

You can read all about this meeting here.

This is an extremely rare event and a fantastic opportnity to have a front row seat as these two playful artists share they extensive knowledge with you.

AILIE SNOW

Artist | Teacher

https://www.instagram.com/ailiesnow/

Ailie’s books came into the world during a return to studying design in her first love, textiles, which she’s been working with for over 30 years.

Ailie is an extremely playful, interesting, inquisitive artist who is constantly growing and learning through her own explorations. Ailie’s work is held in private collections all over New Zealand, Australia and around the world.

As for her private collection of art journals these are a testament to someone who observes the world with an open and inquiring mind. These extraordinary insights are brought to life through her clever use of colour and love of textiles.

Ailie is an accomplished teacher, who has been teaching in one form or another her whole adult life. Teaching has taken her around the world where she’s taught at all sorts of events large and small and for many different organisations.

She’s never happier than when she has a pencil or a needle or thread in her hand and some sort of experimental work challenging her to find a new way to communicate.

RICHARD STINE

Artist | Author

https://www.facebook.com/richard.stine.16/photos

Richard has been a working artist since he created his first masterpiece on the wall of his nursery and hasn’t stopped making art since then!

Richard is the author of two books, Off to Sea (1987) and The World of Richard Stine 1994.

In his book, The World of Richard Stine, Richards pondering over life, love, loss, relationships, choices, freedom is expressed in a range of drawings with extremely quirky and thoughtful writing.

To have met him personally has allowed me to step into his world and see the artist at work/play. What I’ve observed is he’s constantly delving, exploring, experimenting with a variety of mediums. Extremely playful, Richard has a wealth of knowledge to offer on the creative process with a fabulous sense of humour.

Richard has had lots of gallery shows, college and university shows, museum shows...shows at art fairs, at trade shows, at his house, in his studio, in friends houses, in patron's houses, even alone on weekends in front of a hardware store in the town where he lived.

He’s extended his work by having books, cards, posters and prints published using his work. Richard has been making art and living from it for a long time. Therefore, this is an extremely rare opportunity to have a front row seat to the extraordinary art world of Richard Stine and is not one you will want to miss.
